Boho luxe

Inspired by the culture, the landscape and the people of Asia, Grace Garrett created a collection of soft furnishings that would make an impact in any room. Danielle Hanrahan talks to the designer about her love for travel and why colour can transform any space.

What inspires your designs?
The environment. The Beauty of Asia collection features bold and contemporary interpretations of Asian architecture and a focus on natural elements such as the Travellers Palm design, bringing visions of sipping Singaporean slings while relaxing at the Long Bar in the Raffles Hotel to life.

Is there one product or range you are particularly proud of?
I love the way the designs come alive on the rugs; they are so luxurious. One of my favourite designs is the coconuts – it’s really fun and looks completely different depending on the colour combination. Coconuts are a natural element of the world and are prolific throughout Asia.

What is your greatest success to date?
From a life perspective, raising three beautiful children; from a professional perspective, having this current range which means so much to me personally.

What is your biggest challenge?
Putting the whole value chain together in a way that creates great business partnerships and ultimately provides a great product at an affordable price to customers.

What can we expect to see from Grace Garrett in the future?
I am currently working on the next collection, A Sunburnt Country, which will capture the beauty of Australia.

How would you describe the Grace Garrett product?
Luxurious, original, contemporary and bold yet surprisingly affordable.

What are your top home decorating tips?
Embrace colour. It can transform a boring space into something fabulous. Also colours have their own psychological impact so when choosing a colour palette, keep in mind the mood you are trying to create. Wallpaper. It’s a cost-effective way to get maximum results. You don’t have to do the entire room; one bold feature wall can make a colourful statement without being too over the top. Accessorise. If you don’t want to take the plunge with something that’s going to be a permanent fixture, use a neutral palette for the walls and accessories like cushions, a statement rug or a lampshade to inject colour.
